A major face lift could be in the works for Grand Forks’ Alerus Center starting in the next few months.
The Shangri-La restaurant is returning to Grand Forks. Gam Wong, a former part-owner, manager and cook at Shangri-La, which closed last year, will open a new Chinese restaurant next month.
A Staybridge Suites hotel could be going up across the street from Grand Forks’ Alerus Center, according to the city’s planning department.

Grand Forks Air Force Base met its new chief Wednesday when the peppy Col. John E. Michel marched onto the stage at Hangar 605 to take command from Col. Diane R. Hull.
Grand Forks’ population increased slightly in the year ending July 1, 2007, to 51,740, a gain of 70 people or 0.1 percent from the previous year, according to new U.S. Census estimates.
